If a motorist suspects a car is being driven by a drunk driver, the motorist should:

1) not pass the car;
2) keep a safe distance;
3) notify the police as soon as possible;
4) give an accurate description of the vehicle to dispatch;
5) if possible, follow the vehicle and update dispatch with current location; and
6) supply dispatch with personal information to aid in the prosecution.

It is estimated by the National
Highway Traffic and Safety
Administration (NHTSA) that on any
given day, at any given time, 2% of
the drivers on the road are over the
legal limit to drive (.08).  On Friday
and Saturday nights, that
percentage can go as high as
10-12%.  On average, the drunk
driver drives drunk 80 times per
year.  According to NHTSA, alcohol
related accidents accounted for
15,121 deaths in the US in 2006.  
In Indiana alone, there were
4419
children injured in alcohol related
accidents.  235 of those children
were incapacitated and
45
children were
killed.
